Dr. Safayan started his medical training in Southeast Asia and completed it through Indiana University Medical School in 1986. He completed his internship in New York City and his residency in Internal Medicine in Washington, DC. He obtained his board certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2000 and has been a primary care provider since 1990.

Given the lack of preventative care in conventional medicine and Dr. Safayan’s interest in integrative and complementary health care, he completed his Medical Acupuncture training in 1997. Presently, he serves as the preceptor in charge of the Helms Medical Institute (HMI) Medical Acupuncture course for physicians, which trains 200 civilian physicians and 100 military health care providers a year.

Dr Safayan has also obtained postgraduate training in Prolotherapy through the American Academy of Osteopathic Medicine (AAOM) in 2000. He started his Prolotherapy practice in in 2002 and in 2008 became an instructor and lecturer for the premier Prolo training organization, The Hackett Hemwall Patterson Foundation (HHPF) at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, www.hackethemwall.org. Since that time he lectures and trains physicians in Prolo both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Safayan’s other areas of interest include bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, to optimize well being in men and women as they age, nutritional counseling and supplementation to in lieu of medication whenever possible, and NAET, a non-pharmacologic method of reducing allergies and sensitivities which often hamper our well being and our ability to recover from illness.

Along with his medical responsibilities Dr. Safayan is passionate about volunteering to help people in need worldwide. He currently serves on the board of directors for Global Watch Group (GWG) where he was formerly the Vice President for Medical Affairs. GWG is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare for women and children in Afghanistan. Global Watch Group provides needed medical equipment and supplies to hospitals and clinics throughout Afghanistan. To date, Global Watch Group has distributed $500,000 worth of donated supplies to Afghanistan.

Dr. Safayan also travels to Mexico and Honduras annually on secular medical mission to deliver Prolotherapy service to the needy in these countries. Dr. Safayan is a frequent lecturer at integrative medical centers across the country. He has also made several guest appearances on PBS television. His goal is to educate both health care professionals and patients in prevention and lifestyle modification as the cornerstone of health and well being. Dr. Safayan speaks English and Farsi.
