Dr. Centeno is an
international expert and specialist in musculoskeletal injuries. He is an M.D.
who is double board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and
Pain Medicine. He trained at the Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Medical
Center, and the Institute for Rehabilitation
Research.
He is the author of the medical text, "The Spine Dictionary" as well as editor
of the medial journal Whiplash and Related Disorders. He practices in Denver,
North Denver, and Boulder, Colorado.
He utilizes a traditional medical approach blended with alternative and research
based treatments. He is a trained spinal interventionalist who performs many
different x-ray guided procedures. He participates in medical research in many
areas and has been named on grants by the Australian government in conjunction
with the University of Queensland. His area of research
focus are Pain Medicine, traumatic neurologic and musculoskeletal
injuries, cervicogenic dizziness, and sub-failure spinal instability.
The Regenexx procedure is a patent
pending adult, autologous mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplant.
This procedure is “Prolotherapy 2.0” in that it uses the patient’s
own stem cells to repair tissue. This is a true “needle out/needle
in” procedure that allows the physician to harvest MSC’s via
fluoroscopic guidance, isolate a pure MSC population, culture expand
those MSC’s to much larger numbers, and then deploy those MSC’s
using MRI planned fluoroscopic guidance. The implant procedure
varies with regard to cell preconditioning in culture, scaffold, and
interventional technique based on the target tissue being repaired.
For example, disc repair strategies are very different than tendon
which are again different from fracture non-union. We have
successfully used this injection procedure to treat disc bulges,
knee, shoulder, ankle, and hip arthritis, as well as
shoulder
rotator cuff tears and ligament injuries. For more information,
